Workshops Offered
All our workshops are available to any school, worksheets for each session are included in the price. Most school workshops cost £200 a day plus travel costs, workshops involving the planetarium incur an extra charge. Workshops for Key Stage 1
Sun-Moon-Earth
Introduction of the Sun - Moon - Earth system. Find out how long a day is, what causes night time to be dark and why it gets dark at different times. Investigate what a month and a year are and what happens to the Earth in those times.
Workshops are 25 minutes in length and take place in a classroom.
Weather
Discussion of different types of weather and the meaning of climate. Find out what the weather is like today and how the MET office predicts the weather, what is the climate like here and how is it different in other places in the world.

Human Body
What does our body look like on the inside? Find out how our body works and put together a skeleton for yourself. Discover how we move, what happens to the food we eat and what happens as we grow.

Workshops for Key Stage 2
Exploring the Solar System
Come with me on an exploration of our solar system. Find out the order of the planets, how far apart they are and make your own solar system in your classroom. Which planets should we go and visit, how long will it take to get there and what will we find when we do.
Workshops are 45 minutes and best in a hall but can take place in a classroom.
Natural Hazards
Ever wondered just how dangerous the Earth can be? Learn about thunder storms, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and floods. Find out how to cope if you get caught in a natural hazard. This workshops involves some messy experiments!

Workshops for Key Stage 3
Investigating the Universe
Come with me on an exploration of our solar system. Find out the order of the planets, how far apart they are and make your own solar system in your classroom. Our inflatable planetarium will then take us on a journey through the night sky, what do the stars look like and why do they shine?
Workshops are 45 minutes long and must take place in the hall due to the size of the planetarium.
Lunar Bases (NEW)
This workshop allows students to build their own model of a lunar base. After watching a short video and taking part in a discussion about the requirements for space travel and living on the moon, students work in teams of 4 to design and model their moon base. This workshop requires team work and improves problem solving and strategic thinking skills.
Workshops are 2 hours in length but can be run with a full year group.
Rocks and Fossils (coming soon)
Have you ever noticed that there are different types of rock? Investigate how these types of rocks occur and the best places to go fossil hunting in the UK. Handle some rocks and fossils for yourself.

Workshops are 55 minutes long and must take place in the hall due to the size of the planetarium.
Public Perceptions of Science
What do the public really think of science and scientists? What are they interested in and how can scientists change public perceptions? Including a debate on the MMR vaccination and forensic science.
Workshops are 55 minutes in length and take place in a classroom. There is some additional reading for the class to do before hand if you want.
Public Workshops
Astronomy Badge
Available for scouts, beavers, cubs and brownies. Complete your astronomy or stargazer badge, including either a planetarium show or visit to an observatory.
Physics in the Kitchen
Try out our simple experiments that you can do in your own kitchen! From measuring the speed of light in a microwave to exploding custard you can do all of these experiments in your own kitchen.
Physics Busking
Experiments designed by the Institute of Physics to capture your imagination. Come and challenge yourself to complete the physics tasks on offer from the physics busker.
